Gaudi, Gallito's and Poolside Drinks, Barcelona

In comparison to London, Barcelona seems a lot smaller in size.

You can get from the heart of the city to the beach in a matter of a few minutes, but getting from West to East in London will take you nearly half an hour.

On our second day in the city of sunshine, it's safe to say we took advantage of this and packed in a lot.

Breakfast at Flax and Kale is a very civilised, healthy affair.

You take your places inside the bohemian warehouse, take forever to decipher what to eat, and wait impatiently until your food arrives.

Here at Flax and Kale, everything is nutritious and healthy - just what you need in a sweltering hot city.

80% of their offering is plant-based and the remaining recipes contain oily fish. This sounds great, but I'm not always one for places that seem to favour "food trends." However, F&K is one hell of a treat and a delicious spot for a meal at any time of day. My sister and I visited last year and I couldn't resist dragging Sarah along this year for her to try it.

Desperate to re-taste the heaven I indulged in last year, I ordered their special Acai Bowl and Sarah couldn't resist either.

We hopped on the Metro to Parc Guell.

A UNESCO site since 1984, this park is an architectural playground of Antoni Gaudi's works. Gaudi, the face of Catalan modernism, originally chose this spot on Carmel Hill as a luxury place for housing, but it was unfortunately unsuccessful.

Now, it works almost as a Disneyland celebrating Gaudi's colourful, mosaic work.

And the main part offers some pretty beautiful views over the city, La Sagrada Familia and the beach.

Keeping things cool in a denim mini skirt and black cami, with the summer essential of a bikini as a bra.

These leopard sliders from Topshop are a DREAM to walk in (think slippers, flip-flops but 10x more stylish) and the the animal print injects wild summer fun into any outfit.

The heat is always unbearable on this hill, more so than anywhere else in the city. We ducked in and out of shade before heading to the beach in search of a sea breeze.

After a slightly disappointing lunch at Brunch and Cake, we booked dinner at one of my favourite restaurants in Barcelona, Gallito, before heading back to our hotel to wash off the salty sea air.

Gallito is full of Spanish charm and perched right on the beach front, making for some spectacular sunsets and people watching.

Sangria the size of my head in one hand, crispy calamari, bread with tomato and ham croquettes in the other.

These pictures speak for themselves, but I will say that any trip to Barcelona must be completed with dinner at Gallito. The ambiance is relaxed and romantic, the food is delicious, fresh and high-quality, and the view of the beach is dreamy and peaceful.

You can come for a romantic dinner for two, drinks with friends, a light dinner with family - anything. It's open for lunch too, but dinner here is just that bit more charming.

It also happens to be right below the famous W Hotel, where we enjoyed a cocktail by the pool, basking in the summer evening heat.

The drinks here aren't ridiculously expensive, which you may expect from a 5* hotel, and are blissfully tasty.

Always ones to twin in everything we do, Sarah and I both ordered coconut mojitos.

Utterly content, we slipped into bed excited for another day of sunshine and good food.
