BURBERRY PRORSUM SS16 REVIEW...

Every year Burberry showcase another spectacular collection, filled with trench coats, bustling bloggers and marvellous music. This year, of course, was no exception. On the face of it, it was the usual fanfare at the Burberry Prorsum show in Hyde Park. Even, the same familiar front row: Burberry girls, Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse, and Jourdan Dunn, in addition to Sienna Miller, Paloma Faith, and Benedict Cumberbatch. But this season the British brand used technology to further enhance their mass following; the collection, pretty much in its entirety, was unveiled on Snapchat as of 7pm Sunday evening. Trust Burberry to come up with a first. And another: Sephora streamed the first ever live runway beauty tutorial on YouTube. No one can say Burberry is behind on the digital front.

Along with every Burberry show, there is a beautiful musical accompaniment. Previous entertainment has included Jake Bugg, Tom Odell and James Bay. This year, however, featured 54-year-old Alison Moyet and a 32-piece orchestra. The Burberry chief creative director, Christopher Bailey, boyishly ran out to Moyet and embraced her at the end of the performance. Click below to read more!

Let's talk backpacks. Nylon, floppy, monogrammed Burberry backpacks which were the talk of the show. Remember the wait-list frenzy that ensued over those personalised blanket ponchos a couple of seasons ago? Watch it happen again over these gabardine-constructed backpacks. Embroidered with model's initials with tan leather buckles they debuted in black and khaki, and served to neatly sum up the younger, carefree spirit of this collection.

What I love most about this collection is how wearable the designs are. It's high fashion but something the everyday girl can wear - which sits neatly in the heart of Burberry's brand values. Each look was worn with a young and cool attitude which created a fresh feel for the collection, teaming perfectly with the backpacks, loose feminine dresses and sheer crocheted tops.

The designs were much tougher and muted in colour than previous years. Burberry SS15 featured punchy prints and bursts of colour, whereas this collection showcased soft shades of beige, black and blush. Nonetheless, the Burberry aesthetic was still very much visible with the usual focus on outerwear. Lace trenches spliced with sporty mesh, the perfect black pea coat, luxe duffle coat, an officer jacket with frogging and regimental buttons and the perfect leather biker, finished with gold cording trim. Coats for summer I hear you cry? In Britain, a coat at hand is always needed regardless of season.

There was also a heavy emphasis on functions; after all, the show was titled 'Functionregalia'. Backpacks with chunky buckles, gold military buttons, the 'belt' bag and gold zips. This gave practicality to the collection, further highlighting the wearability of the designs.

Finally, if there's one word that I think sums up the collection: London. The designs very much remind me of what all the sleek, young and hip Londoners wear when exploring hidden gems in the city with their equally stylish friends. Think Cara Delevigne. Sophisticated yet hip, youthful yet ladylike, loose yet structured. It's these dualities that really make up British style, and the very reason I love it so much.
