Ten-Step Guide to Perfect Makeup with the Help of Bobbi Brown!

I got a lot of requests on a basic, simple makeup look by one of my followers, so here you go! To help me along the way, I'm using my Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual. Pre-makeup you should exfoliate your face to help slough off dead skin cells, wash with clean cold water which will close any pores and then moisturize for your skin type. Remember to always use a gentle eye cream to ensure that under-eye concealer goes on smoothly and evenly. Right, lets get to it!

Step 1: Corrector/concealer: First, neutralize darkness with a pink or peach toned corrector. Apply with a brush, apply with a brush to the deepest or darkest area to prepare for concealer. Choose a yellow-based shade of concealer (for under-eyes) if you have blue bags underneath your eyes or green-based if you have red. Blend by patting with your fingers and sweeping with a brush. Lastly, apply yellow or white powder with a brush or or puff to set the concealer in place.

Step 2: Foundation: Use a brush, sponge, or fingers to apply foundation where the skin needs to be evened out (or use a primer if you really need even skin) - around the nose and mouth where there is often redness. To cover blemishes, spot apply foundation stick or blemish cover stick in a shade that matches the skin tone exactly. Pat with your fingers to blend. If your skin is extremely dry, or you'd prefer a more sheer casual alternative to foundation, try tinted moisturizer.

Step 3 & 4: Powder and blusher: For crease-free, long wear, apply loose powder in a pale yellow tone (or white if you are very fair) over concealer using an eyeshadow blender brush or a mini powder puff. If skin feels dry, dust powder only around the nose and forehead. For blusher, smile and apply a natural shade of blush on the apples of cheeks. Blend up toward the hairline, then downward to soften the colour. Start off with your natural cheek colour, then apply a pop of brighter blush on top. For an extra glow, dust a shimmer powder of the cheekbones with a face blender brush, or use a creamy formula applied with your fingers.

Step 5 & 6: Lipstick/gloss & liner: Try and buy a lip exfoliater (Lush Cosmetics do loads of tasty ones!) to smooth and clean lips. Then use a lip balm or lip moisturizer. Neutral lipstick shades and sheer formulas can be applied directly from the tube. Use a lip brush to apply darker or brighter colours, which require precise application. Use the natural colour of your lips as a guide when choosing a lipstick shade. To achieve natural-looking definition, use lip liner. To keep colour from feathering, line lips with a lip liner after applying lip colour. Use a lip brush to soften any hard edges.

Step 7, 8 & 9: Brows, eyeshadow and liner: Define browns using shadow or pencil i the colour of your eyebrows and hair. To apply shadow, begin at the inner corner of the brow, and follow its natural shape using light, feathery strokes. For eyeshadow, sweep a light eye colour from the lash to the brown bone. Dust a medium eye shadow colour on the lower lid up to the crease. Neutral shadows work best for everyday wear. Line the upper lash line with a dark shadow colour. After lining the upper lash line, look straight ahead to see if there are any gaps that need to be filled in. Apply liquid liner if you want, with fast but steady strokes (sometimes if you spend too much time of liquid liner you are at more risk of creating an error). Apply pencil to the lower lash line and let it join up the to the corner of your eye with the liquid eye liner.

Step 10: Mascara: Choose your brush shape very carefully, each brush can create different looks. Synthetic bristles create a more natural look whereas the rubber bristles create more definition and volume. When applying mascara, hold the mascara wand parallel to the floor and brush from the base of the lashes to the tips. Roll the wand as you go. Brush vertically and horizontally to avoid clumps. Never brush with the tip of the wand and always apply two to three coats.

Hope you enjoyed this post, have fun and look good!
