Au Revoir to the Heel...

You know when Victoria Beckham swaps six-inch stilettos for flats, that heels are no longer in. Heels have been thrown out of the limelight and it's now all about the humble flat. Ballet pumps, loafers, espadrilles, lace-ups and moccasins were seen all over the catwalk during fashion week this season. Not only were the models sporting the new trend but even the guests too; Olivia Palermo, Poppy Delevigne and Alexa Chung to name a few.

Giorgio Armani, Victoria Beckham, J.W Anderson, Trussardi
Here are a few of my faves currently in the shops now; prices vary...

(From left to right) Blue loafers - Alexander McQueen, red loafers - Tod's, black patent loafers - Office, snakeskin ballet pumps - Topshop, black kitten loafers - Charlotte Olympia, New Balance Trainers - Office, black slipper pumps - Carven at Kurt Geiger
Are you swapping stilettos for slippers too? Happy Friday people! Hope you all had a great week!

Tuesday Ten: Things to Do in London this March...

I love London. Always have done and always will. I live just on the outskirts but every time I take the Tube into central London, I love it! During half-terms and other school holidays, my sister and I always plan a special trip into the city; be it for shopping or just for a good coffee and pastry. London is always buzzing with city workers, lost tourists, panic shoppers and humble locals; all which make the place special. And whatever part you go to, there's always something amazing happening; perhaps that's a local food market or even London Fashion Week. For the upcoming month, there's lots to do around the town - so hopefully you'll join us Londoner's for a good time...

  1. Silent Disco at The View inside The Shard Pick your channel and choose your side as three DJs battle it out over separate wireless channels, playing the best in pop, rock and party classics, while you dance the night away at 1,000ft in the midst of the city skyline.
  2. The Breakfast Club Pancake Challenge - March = pancakes. The Breakfast Club is again setting diners the ultimate pancake-eating challenge in 2014. Order a plate of 12 pancakes and a timer will be set to 15 minutes. Gobble the lot and you bag the meal for free. Fail to clean your plate and you'll have to foot the £17.50 bill (which kindly goes to charity). The American-style pancakes are served with berries, cream and drizzled with maple syrup.
  3. Women of the World Festival - The three-day festival is scheduled to take place during the weekend of International Women's Day (on Mar 8). Through discussion, debate, music, theatre, film workshops and other events, women’s achievements are celebrated and the obstacles that prevent them from achieving their full potential and contributing to the world explored.
  4. Isabella Blow: Fashion GaloreFashion doyenne, muse and aristocrat Isabella Blow devoted her life to discovering incredible fashion talent and championing the designers she discovered. Much of this spectacular show features pieces by them, most notably her protégées Philip Treacy and Alexander McQueen. The exhibition showcases Blow-a-like black mannequins complete with red cut-out lips and a wonky black bob featuring her most dazzling and photographed outfits.
  5. Great Spitalfields Pancake RaceTeams of four in wacky costumes will celebrate 2014 pancake day by running up and down Dray Walk, off Brick Lane, flipping pancakes to raise money for London's Air Ambulance. The winners receive a beautifully engraved frying pan, plus Cath Kidston baking gear!
  6. St. Patrick's Day Parade - a.k.a my birthday! In 2014 London's St Patrick's Day celebrations take place on Sunday March 16. The capital will happily watch the annual St Patrick’s Day parade; seeing the floats, including a five metre tall St Patrick and firebird. Of course, there will be lots of river dancing.
  7. The Great Gatsby 5D Movie ExperienceA decadent film screening of Baz Luhrmann's ‘Great Gatsby’ followed by a glitzy after-party. Expect late-night fox trots, moonshine in teapots, feathers and flappers, bootleggers and millionaires.

  9. The Spring Stitching Show - Those in need of inspiration or materials for a new craft project should head down to this large-scale knitting and stitching fair. Exhibitors will be selling specialist craft supplies, patterns and books, as well as ready-made arts and crafts. The show also includes workshops on dressmaking, knitting and crochet, plus appearances from leading craft authors.
  10. The Vogue Festival 2014 - Join me and my sister for a weekend of fashion fun. The festival includes some of the world's biggest fashion talents who come together for a weekend of interviews and discussions. The line-up for the 2014 event includes Karlie Kloss, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alexa Chung, Manolo Blahnik, Tory Burch, Naomi Campbell, Franca Sozziani and more. Expect plenty of entertaining and inspiring workshops, performances and makeovers (we can't wait too!).

Currently Loving: Oversized Turtlenecks...

Is there anything more slouchy and chic at the same time? No. The humble polar-neck (as us Brits call it, 'turtleneck' for those across the pond) made its comeback this season; varying in colour, knit type, and style. I for one, am a sucker for a grey one. Long sleeved, a gigantic neck, soft to the touch, cable knitted and nonchalantly loose.

It's just the perfect winter warmer; it allows for layering both under and over it. I love the two examples above, both of which I grabbed from my Pinterest. I love how both of the jackets are just 'resting' on the shoulders and how the general look is just so effortless yet chic.

Burberry Prorsum AW14

The frow
[From left to right] Harry Styles, Cat Deeley, Ashley Madekwe, Felicity Jones, Leigh Lezark, Olivia Palermo, Poppy Delevigne, Jamie Campbell-Bower, Anna Wintour, Bradley Cooper.

The catwalk

Burberry Prorsum's autumn/winter 2014 show started to a backdrop of a water-coloured London skyline, and it wasn’t long before it flowed onto the catwalk. Christopher Bailey is the king of the cover-up - be it the trench, the biker or the cape - which came hand-painted with simple florals, leaves and abstract decoration in flushed brushstrokes. For those that hadn't been decorated, long scarves in punchy patterns injected vibrancy.

It was an unusually loose and fluid collection - everything swished and swirled as the models moved - though light-as-air silk-chiffon and lace dresses and those scarves cinched together at the waist created a restraint, giving balance. Overall, it reflected Bailey’s menswear collection in January - the scarves, the sheepskins and those bags.

As ever it was the famous front row that grabbed the most attention. Anna Wintour, Olivia Palermo and Harry Styles joined Bradley Cooper, fresh from the BAFTAs, who was there to support girlfriend Suki Waterhouse. Joining her was the usual Burberry roll call: Cara Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn, Edie Campbell, Matilda Lowther, Malaika Firth and Charlotte Wiggins. He showed his appreciation of the top-model participation by sending each of them out for the finale wearing a blanket personalised with their initials, in doing so, creating the new trophy piece of the season.

I didn't think I could love Burberry anymore than I did. But turns out I can.

What was you favourite look from the catwalk?

The Best Concealer's of All-Time...

There's something I've been keeping from you all. You see, I've got an addiction that I really should consult a Doctor about. I'm a conceal-a-holic. We've had this relationship for quite some time now, and I don't intend in calling it off until my skin clears up. A light slick of foundation simply isn't enough; the need for extra concealer to hide those pesky dark circles or bright, red pimples is extremely high.

I've gone through my fair share of concealers, to say the least. It's probably what I spend most of my time researching, buying and fussing over. I've gone from drugstore to drugstore, counter to counter and I think I've finally found my favourite ones. Here they are!

Benefit Cosmetics Erase Paste
The number-one under-brightener's for me - I have very dark blue/purple circles underneath my eyes but the second I swipe this on they're long gone. It has a beautiful salmon-pink colour that instantly contracts the blueness of dark circles. It has a very creamy texture that makes it very easy to use and it lasts all day. The packaging is great and the product lasts forever. A serious recommendation.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer
Perfect for either under-eyes or blemishes; personally I love it for dark spots/acne scars. It has a slightly pinky undertone, making it perfect for lightening the purple-grey scars that blemishes leave behind. The creamy but stubborn texture lasts all day without slipping and sliding everywhere. It has great, buildable coverage and a perfect colour-match too (I'm shade 'Ivory'). I've repurchased this product about 2 or 3 times and absolutely love it. This is probably my favourite of them all; it's just an outstanding product that I couldn't live without.

M.A.C Studio Finish Concealer
The best concealer for bright, red spots that just won't disappear underneath light foundation. The strong yellow-tone counteracts redness, making blemishes, spots or areas of redness instantly disappear. The high-coverage makes spot-concealing a whole lot quicker when I'm in a rush too.

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer
A serious cult concealer; every beauty blogger, vlogger or makeup guru out there has one. The only liquid concealer I trust is this one; for it's high coverage, matte-finish, perfect colour-match and lasting-power. Unfortunately, they've upped the price because the 'hype' which really puts me off buying it, but for only £4.19 I cannot resist. Great for under-eyes, redness or spot concealing.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Under-Eye Concealer Kit
Conceal and set in one portable kit. What more could you ask for? It blends easily to instantly cover, lift and brighten dark circles. It also helps maintain skin's moisture levels for a smooth, virtually line-less look. The fuss-free pressed powder sets concealer for long-lasting wear, and with the slight yellow-tone, it counteracts any blue or slight red puffiness under the eyes. Amazing for on-the-go touch-ups throughout the day. I use this under my eyes when the circles aren't so dark (if they're really bad, I'll resort to the Benefit Erase Paste).

My Favourite LFW Show's So Far...

It's about time I did some fashion week coverage isn't it. I've had my eyes peeled at every show since the first day at NYFW but simply, there haven't really been many shows that have truly inspired me. These ones below have. It all starts off tailored, chic and sophisticated with Jasper Conran, finishing in high glamour and and a bit of sparkle.

Jasper Conran

Jasper Conran got things underway with slinky dresses in black and nude, gently tousled hair and red-kissed lips. Dressing gown coats, clean blazers and jackets, and sheer panels on dresses destined for cocktail hour made everything elegant and easy for evening, while punches of orange, and cosy roll-neck jumpers brought something more fun and practical to the table.

Temperley London

Never to disappoint in the 'opulence' department; Temperley London showcased yet again charming and ornate garments that hung closely together with soft, ethereal side braids. Quilted jackets, Greek mosaic-inspired co-ords, knee-length dresses, knitted cardigans and ethereal, rose-print dresses. Against a black and grey base, punches of vivid blue, lilac, khaki and rose were added for an extra kick.

Julien MacDonald

There's simply no end to the amount of dresses that a Julien Macdonald woman can own. Short ones, long ones, knitted beaded numbers; mosaic-smothered floor-sweeping gowns; those with trains of shimmering shards; others with a splash of feathers only here and there to protect one's modesty. Whatever the occasion, it's obviously glamorous - in his world there's simply no point going to anything that isn't.

I promise that there will be a lot more fashion week-related posts coming soon! Burberry Prorsum, my favourite brand of all time, have their AW14 show tomorrow and simply, I cannot wait. Expect A LOT of coverage on that! Speak soon!

Last-Minute Valentine's Outfit Ideas:

Bandage dress. A load of skin on show. Red lipstick. Curls. These are the first few things that spring to mind when I think of your 'typical' Valentine's day look. Personally, I can't think of something more unoriginal or less stylish if I tried. People forget that there are many other ways to look sexy or pretty on a date or night out; the LBD à la Parisienne par exemple, c'est fantastique! But, it's not always about dresses; I always feel much more comfortable in jeans, a dressy top and heels. Below are just a few ideas for if you're stuck in a bit of a V-day rut...

Dress - Maje, jacket - Saint Laurent, shoes - Givenchy, lipstick in Chuck - Topshop, clutch - Diane Von Furstenburg

Top - Proenza Schouler, jeans - Frame, heels - Jimmy Choo, bag - Kotur
Top and skirt - Both Kenzo, heels - Givenchy, bag - 3.1 Philip Lim, lipstick in Damned - Topshop

Sneak Peak: My Prom Dress!

Look at that amazing photography; I do apologise for such terrible quality. My prom isn't until June, but as my final exams begin in April, I wanted to get all the 'prom stuff' out of the way so I can focus on hard-core revision *cue huge tantrum*. There are only few occasions in life when lots of people come together and really make an effort to dress up; prom is the baby beginner of those occasions.

Today I bought my prom dress which is very exciting! I was originally going to buy this prom dress, after being in such awe over this instagram picture. I was a bit afraid that the extra pale peppermint may wash me out. So I was especially excited when I saw this beautifully, elegant Coast maxi dress for only £75. You heard me. A whole 100 smackaroonies off the original price tag. Personally, I think it's better to buy your prom dress way in advance, as old season prom dresses go in the sale before the new ones come in; just like this one.

I really love this dress, I think it really suits my complexion and hair colour; all of which I was afraid the mint one may wash out. I'm thinking of teaming it with a messy, low chignon and silver clutch (which I've had lurking around my house for ages, I think it's from Accessorize). Plain nude/silver pumps will make the perfect addition too.

Tuesday Ten: February Style Inspo...

I am desperate for Spring to arrive. The run up to Christmas was all exciting; there was shopping to be done, we had something to look forward to and most importantly there were fairy lights everywhere. January passed in a sort of grey haze. February however is a different matter. I'm much more optimistic about this little month; we can finally start looking forward to spring! (Not to mention my birthday is next month!) Before I dive head-first into all the pastel coloured, petal hued springtime fashions; today we'll look at inspiration to help us with the transition of winter to spring.

There you have it. Layering up with a leather jacket, switching boots to printed flats and a lighter colour palette are all things that will help banish the winter blues and foresee spring without looking like a walking Easter-egg!

What was your most-worn item in January?
