Tuesday Ten: Cold Weather Outfit Ideas

I'm probably a little late to doing this post considering January, which is the coldest month of the year, is nearly over. But hey ho, the UK is freezing all year round so it's pretty good that I done a little research for this post. Anyway, Dressing warm and stylishly is an ongoing challenge. I dug through my archives of street style photos to pull up some of my favourite winter outfits on models and fashion show attendees. From chunky boots to luxe layers, dig into the other 9 chic and weather-friendly ideas! Click below the social media buttons on 'read more'.

Currently On My Shopping List:

  1. Strappy Yellow Cami Top - Topshop £18.00 - I think this is so perfect for Spring, underneath a navy cardigan and white jeans. This would also look cute with red florals. I can't wait to get it!
  2. Geo Print Collar Tip Shirt - Topshop £38.00 - This so reminds me of Miranda Kerr! Maybe that's why I like it! Pair it like it her with a black blazer, skinny jeans and black pointed heels.
  3. Bobbi Brown Rose Shimmer Brick - Bobbi Brown £32.00 - I'm still not sure whether to buy the rose shimmer brick (like in the picture above) or the nectar shimmer brick. Let me know what you all think!
  4. Real Techniques Expert Face Brush  - Boots £9.99 - Why not complete my Real Techniques makeup brush collection? I hear this brush is amazing at applying foundation.
  5. Rimmel Stay Matte Powder - Boots £3.99 - Again, I hear so many good things about this powder and it's so cheap! Definitely need to add this to my makeup collection.
  6. L'Oreal True Match Foundation - Boots £10.29 - I need to swatch this in Boots to see what shade is mine, I expect that I'll be one of the lightest shades! Yet another product that I hear good things about.
  7. Cath Kidston Compact Mirror - Cath Kidston £3.00 - Well, I just need a compact mirror for school and thought this was cheap and cute.

Tuesday Ten: The Truth About Beauty Myths...

Nowadays there are so many commonly held beauty beliefs floating around (thanks Pinterest) that it’s hard to keep track of what is true and what is completely bogus. Today I thought I’d go over 10 popular beauty myths and tips I've heard over the years and demystify which ones are factual and which ones are just plain wrong. Check them out below and let me know which myths your guilty of too!
  1. It’s wrong to pluck above your eyebrows. False! So many girls think that you can only pluck below the brow and that couldn't be further from the truth. Sometimes you can achieve the best shape for your face by plucking above the brow.
  2. You only need SPF when it’s sunny. False. Wearing sunscreen year-round is a must.
  3. Crossing your legs will cause spider veins. False! Actually extended standing can cause varicose or spider veins. Usually though, this is something that has a genetic predisposition.
  4. Oily skin doesn't need hydration. False! Even though your skin might seem hydrated because it is oily, that is not the case at all. Moisturizing is essential for maintaining a healthy complexion. If you have oily skin, just be sure to steer clear of oil-based moisturizers and opt for oil-free or water-based ones.
  5. Wearing nail polish 24/7 will turn your nails yellow. True! Every few months, take a break from the polish or else your nails will start looking a little yellowish. No thank you!
  6. There’s no way to get rid of cellulite. True. Some say that finding a true cure is like the holy grail of dermatology. Sadly nothing can be done to fully get rid of it—not creams, not even liposuction. There are temporary fixes (getting a tan to conceal it or using creams with caffeine), but at the end of the day it’s just something we all have to deal with (or get over).
  7. You should wash your hair everyday. False! Your hair relies on the natural oils it produces to keep it healthy, strong, and shiny. Washing your hair excessively can strip your scalp of these important nutrients causing dry, brittle, damaged hair (that won’t grow). If you ask us, the less you wash, the better. I usually try to wash my hair every other day.
  8. Shaving makes your hair grow back darker and thicker. False. When your hair first grows out it looks thicker and darker because hair is widest at its base when it is cut. So really, shaving doesn't change the thickness or color of your hair.
  9. It’s possible to shrink your pores. False. Like cellulite, this is another incurable beauty ailment. Luckily there are ways to reduce the appearance. Try using egg whites. We know it sounds odd but they tighten the skin, which gives the illusion of smaller pores.
  10. 100 brushes a day will make your hair shine. False. Whoever came up with this old wives tale was a bit overzealous. If you brushed your hair 100 strokes a day, you’d be doing way more damage than good. However light brushing can be really good for you since it stimulates circulation to the scalp, helping to nourish your strands and even promote growth.

Spring Trend #2: Blackout

Jeans - Topshop, jumper - James Perse, bag - Proenza Schouler, boots - Isabel Marant
Dress - Saint Laurent, clutch - Sophie Hulme, heels - Jimmy Choo, necklace - Maiyet

Top - Valentino, lipstick in All About Me and trousers - both Topshop, clutch - Maiyet, shoes - Gianvito Rossi
This Spring'13 is a very edgy, dark one. Considering an 'all black' outfit can be a bit overwhelming, play up texture and proportion. A red lip, leather top, gold chain or snakeskin bag can really help elevate a minimalistic outfit into something magical. Grab inspiration from Pinterest like this outfit, this one also and even this too. Oh and this and this!

Yet Another Quickie...

Well, it hasn't been the greatest of 5 days I've been absent from this blog, the reason why is because I've had the norovirus. Norovirus is a winter vomiting bug, not to gross you all out but I've been sick more than 14 times over the last 5 days and I even had to miss my major biology exam I was talking about earlier this week! I'm feeling better today but I've been left with chronic stomach cramps. I'm looking on the bright side though, I should be back to blogging in no time! I'm missing it so much!

Just A Quickie...

Sorry guys, there will be no 'Tuesday Ten' today as I have a GCSE biology exam tomorow morning and need to spend every minute I can revising! That's also the reason why there hasn't been a post for ages! Hopefully I'll have a post up tomorow evening.

Don't forget also, there will be no 'Thursday Must-Have' anymore as I felt that post was no longer popular or interesting, plus I ran out of ideas!

Hope you all ad a good today and speak soon!

Celeb-Inspired Style Resolutions for 2013

  1. Don't Wait 'Till Spring to Wear BrightsJust because the weather is dreary doesn't mean your wardrobe needs to be. In fact, the cloudier the day, the more reason to brighten your style. Olivia Palermo's coral coat explains exactly what I mean.
  2. Work With Your FigureKim Kardashian is the master of working her curves. Have an hourglass figure? Make sure your waist is always nipped. Have more of a Taylor Swift bod? Long streamlined silhouettes are perfect. Figure out your most flattering fit then repeat, repeat, repeat.
  3. It's All in the FitSpeaking of fit, Victoria Beckham persistently proves the power of a good tailor. Whether it's in the form of trousers or an evening coat, everything she wears hugs her petite figure precisely.
  4. Back to the BasicsIt's rare to see Eva Longoria wear prints, the actress prefers basic shapes and colors she can mix and match. This outfit is refreshingly simple and the results are so chic.
  5. Don't Be a WallflowerBeyonce isn't afraid to go bold with color or print. If minimal isn't your thing, take some notes from this pop star's wardrobe. She wasn't to be overlooked in this hot pink tee and mixed-print maxi.
  6. Go Ladylike in the Day Miranda Kerr's prim and proper white sheath dress defines daytime elegance. A piece like this is a smartly versatile investment. Pair the classy cut with equally classy accessories or mix it up with trendy ones.
  7. And Rugged for NightKristen Stewart can go glam when she wishes, but she's most in her element when her clothes have a tomboyish edge. Toss on a black leather jacket over an LBD or jeans for a comfortable yet cool evening look.
  8. Rock Statement AccessoriesCelebs use big designer bags or standout heels to make an average outfit look extraordinary. Vamp up your leggings and sweater with a cool bag or killer boots like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
  9. Get PlayfulTaylor Swift manages to make kitsch look unimaginably chic. Don't be afraid to get quirky, it can totally pay off. Besides, fashion is supposed to be fun, right?
  10. Wear Funky ShadesSpeaking of fun, one of the best ways to inexpensively update your look is via sunglasses. Both Beyonce and Kourtney Kardashian have been spotted in these bad boys.

January Must-Haves:

Lipstick in Tease - Topshop, jacket - Karl, trousers - Theory, sunglasses - Topshop, flats - Alexander McQueen, top - Stella McCartney, jumper - Chinti and Parker, bag - Pierre Hardy

  1. Lip Locked - Its all about the bright pout in 2013. Shades of red, pink and mango are on everyone's January wishlist.
  2. Shearling Biker Jacket - These are making a comeback, pair yours with floral shirt and ankle boots like this.
  3. You've Been Framed  - Time to get the peepers out! Bold, colourful wayfarers are totally in.
  4. A Pop of Bright - Don't wait until Spring to wear your colourful flats.
  5. Printed Pants - The spin-off trend of the pyjama inspired trousers. This season is all about printed pants and a minimalistic top.
  6. A Splash of Yellow - Brighten up the cold, bitter, wintery days of January with a touch of canary yellow.
  7.  A Trend for Typography - Forget alphabet soup! Wearing the alphabet is bang on trend this Jan.
  8. Colour Block Accessories - This trend is also making a comeback but instead of it being in clothes, this time it's for accessories.

Tuesday Ten: Get Ready for Spring!

The transition from winter to spring is a tricky one as their is such a contrast. After Christmas is over and the new year has begun, I start looking forward to Spring and try to brighten up the dullest months of the year (January and February) with punchy, bold colours in my wardrobe. Here are 10 items you need right now...

(From left to right) Clutch - Lanvin, jacket - IRO, sunglasses - YSL, blazer - Stella McCartney, jumper/ sweater - Boy By Band of Outsiders, skirt - Michael Van Der Ham, red dress - Giambattista Valli, green dress - Valentino, purple heels - Charlotte Olympia, yellow heels - Jimmy Choo
P.S: As it's the new year, I decided that there will be no more Thursday Must-Haves as I was running out of ideas!
